Day 46 of 365 (I Can Sing Damn It)

Last summer was so long ago.  Well so it seems when we still have 20-30 inches of snow upon the ground and icicles that seem to be, actually they are 8-10 foot long. But last summer was a season with some victories.  Last summer was a summer where Secundus found his voice.

He took part in a rock music camp. At that time he sang his tail off doing a couple of hoary old rock anthems.  But it was his stage persona that was what made it work.  Secundus came alive in front of an audience. I was so proud.  Of course I posted the hand held video to Youtube.

For a time after the camp Secundus got together with some of his band mates.  He did this for about a month and a half.  He had great fun.  However the band was meeting out of town and the drummer would forget to show.  C’est la vie that petered out.

Recently the auditions for his high school battle of the bands happened.  He was supposed to work with some of his mates doing a thing called “Four Chord song”.  Alas as is often the case these guys crapped out.  He was crushed.  Blackness hung over the house.

Dad decided he couldn’t let this state of affairs last.  At that time he dug out the souvenir disk from the performance.  Dad burned four copies and on the morning of the auditions Dad gave them to the lad.  The conversation went like this:

Dad: I know you aren’t afraid of talking to people
Secundus: Right.
Dad: I want you to do me a favor.  Go to the auditions and watch everyone else.
Secundus: Why?
Dad:  Because when you hear a band that needs a second singer I want you to give them your DVD, your audition tape.  You can tell them this is what you could be bringing to their act.  My guess is that more than a few of those bands will need a real singer.
Secundus:  Cool.

As fate would have it (although I don’t think he had to hand out the tape) Secundus now has a gig as a guest vocalist.  Life is calm again.
